Overview

The United States Army is a key element of the United States Armed Forces that is responsible for land-based military operations. The Standard Army Management Information Systems (STAMIS) is critical for the management of maintenance, supply, and property within the Active, Reserve and National Guard Components of the Army. STAMIS encompasses the Standard Army Maintenance System-Enhanced (SAMS-E), Standard Army Retail Supply System (SARSS), and Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced (PBUSE). These systems provide the Soldiers new capabilities to execute their missions with a higher level of proficiency and effectiveness. As updates to these systems develop, it is important that Soldiers are briefed and trained on new systems.

Challenge

While McLane Advanced Technologies (MAT) was developing SAMS-E, MAT identified a real need to develop a quality training program that offers Soldiers support through practical and relevant instructional programs to include new equipment training as well as sustainment training. As updates were made to SAMS-E and other STAMIS applications, Soldiers needed a program that would enable them to seamlessly incorporate their knowledge of changes into day-to-day operations. The goal was to provide a quality program for Soldiers to gain the necessary knowledge in new equipment and sustainment training for updates within the Standard Army Management Information Systems (STAMIS) that is practical, affordable, and accessible.

Solution

In correlation with McLane Advanced Technologies’ development of SAMS-E, MAT created instructional programs for new equipment training along with advanced sustainment courses for experienced operators. To date, MAT has trained over 25,000 soldiers and civilians on various versions of SAMS-E. The program’s success led MAT to expand its STAMIS training to include the Standard Army Retail Supply System (SARSS) and Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced (PBUSE). This ensures that all STAMIS applications are trained with parallel development efforts. MAT has a large staff of experienced Master and Senior Trainers as well as Field Service Representatives and certified computer specialists with military backgrounds in supply, maintenance and warehouse management. These core resources have earned MAT industry recognition for the utility of its software and the efficacy of its training.

Results

Once completing a training program with MAT, Soldiers leave with increased knowledge of the total functionality of the Standard Army Management System applications, as well as mission requirements. Soldiers gain a “big picture” perspective of the system that leads to increased effectiveness and productivity as well as a decrease in expenses and errors.
